Integrating Information
Literacy into the Curriculum Librarians are ready to
help you integrate information literacy into the curriculum in the following
ways: 1. Request a customized library instruction session. Faculty members are welcome to request a librarian to deliver a customized library instruction session during your class time. Simply click on one of the links below to make the request. Please give us at least one week notice to prepare for your class. Thank you! We highly recommend that you require your students to take the library assessment after the session. 2. Require your students to attend an open session library workshop - Research the Smart Way. If you would like your students to receive information literacy training on their own time, please encourage them to sign up for one of the library workshops offered at Parham and Downtown campuses. Simply refer them to the following link to register online or print out a flyer for distribution in your class. Library Workshop: Research the Smart Way - Online Registration 3. Make an appointment with a librarian to create a customized course guide for your assignment and link it into Blackboard. If you have a special assignment, and would like a librarian to create a customized course guide, please make an appointment at 523-5329 (Parham) or 523-5333 (Downtown). Check http://jsrcclibrarybi.pbwiki.com/ for sample course guides. If you need assistance for creating effective research assignments, please refer to http://teach.jsr.vccs.edu/library/IL/effectiveassignment.htm. 4. Link library research guides into your Blackboard courses. Librarians have created many research guides to assist students in their research. Please check them out at http://teach.jsr.vccs.edu/library/default.htm. Feel free to link the ones you consider essential into your Blackboard courses. 5. Encourage students to participate in various library workshops. Libraries offer various library workshops covering some essential information literacy skills. Please encourage your students to check http://teach.jsr.vccs.edu/library/IL/workshops.htm for a list of workshops as well as schedule and registration information. Please feel free to submit your suggestions or questions online at http://www.reynolds.edu/library/emailalibrarian.htm, or call 523-5333 (Downtown), 523-5329 (Parham), and 523-5419 (Western).
